Based on new survey information being released for 1996, cash costs for U.S. cow-calf operations in 1997 increased from 1996. (Cost and returns for 1996 will consequently not match previously released information.) (1996-97 estimates). Although feed grain prices were lower in 1997, pasture and range conditions once again were disappointing and hay prices were at record levels, indicating very tight forage supplies.
