The American Quarter Horse established a bold reputation as the greatest cattle roundup and trial driving horse in history and would never be forgotten by early American racing enthusiasts. To ensure the unique qualities of this breed did not perish, a group of American Quarter Horse enthusiasts met in 1940 in Ft. Worth, Texas to establish what was to become the largest equine breed registry in the world, the American Quarter Horse Association.

The goal of the International Sporthorse Registry (ISR) and Oldenburg Registry NA is to assist as an open Sporthorse Registry in the development of breeding top performance horses through the establishment of an effective and uniform standard of evaluation. The aim of the ISR and Oldenburg N.A. is a noble, large-framed and correct horse with dynamic, spacious and elastic movements; well suited for Dressage, Jumping, Eventing, and Hunter classes due to its temperament, character and rideability.

Sometime during the Pan American Games week of September 2, 1959, a meeting was held at Patrick Butler's home in Oak Brook, Illinois, at which the USCTA was founded and the nature of American eventing was fundamentally changed. Since the great majority of us who are actively eventing today weren't born thirty-eight years ago, or weren't yet riding in events, we are basically ignorant about how and why our association came into being.
