F!/(P!*(F-P)!) divided by (/) P!/(M!*(P-M)!) times (F-P)!/((P-M)!*((F-P)-P-M)!)
F= the field of numbers (e.g. 50)For the mathematically challenged, most state and national lotteries have from about 1 in 5 million to about 1 in 80 million odds of winning.
P= the number of player picks (e.g. 6)
M=the number of player matches(e.g. 5)
Say your state lottery has 1 in 10-million odds; If you buy two tickets, you have a 1 in 5-million chance of winning. Ten tickets gets you a 1 in 1-million chance, and if you buy five-million tickets you have a 50/50 chance. To insure your win, you need to buy 10-million tickets, which will pay you about half of what you've spent. By the way, all lottery draws are purely random. There is NO way to improve your odds, other than buying more tickets.

The Georgia Lottery Corporation advertises its jackpots at the estimated 26-year annuity value for The Big Game and 30 year value for Lotto Georgia. When players choose the annuity option on their prize, the Georgia Lottery pays the prize out over 26 or 30 years (depending on the game) by buying U.S. Government Treasury Securities, which earn interest and mature annually over the time period. That annual return is the amount winners receive each year for the 26 or 30 year period. With Cash Option, the Lottery will take the amount of money that would have been invested and will pay it directly to the winner in one payment. Both payment options have federal and state taxes deducted from them.

Tickets can be validated at Lottery retailers or any of the three Lottery offices in Topeka, Wichita and Great Bend. Online tickets, which are valid for 365 days from the day of the drawing for which they were purchased, can also be checked in a Check-A-Ticket machine at lottery retailer locations in Kansas. Prizes on instant scratch tickets must be claimed within 180 days following the announced end date of a game. Players are encouraged to check tickets and cash prizes as soon as possible.
Winning PICK 3, PICK 4, CASH 5, LOTTO KENTUCKY and POWERBALL tickets are valid for 180 days after the date of the drawing.

The idea of lotteries isn't a new one. Thoughout history, lotteries have had profound effects on many good causes. Lotteries first came to the United States in 1612 with the proud Virginia Lottery, which funded half of Jamestown's budget. Lottery funds were used to fight the adversities of early Virginia, such as disease, fire, and famine. 50% goes to the prize fund. 40% supports programs benefiting older Pennsylvanians: Property Tax/Rent Rebate, Mass Transit Program, and Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly (PACE). 7% is paid in commissions to retailers and vendors. 3% is spent to operate the Lottery.

By law, all unclaimed Virginia lottery prizes go to the Literary Fund. Beginning in FY 99, unclaimed Lottery prizes were transferred from the Literary Fund to be used solely for the purpose of school construction, additions and renovations. More than 1.5 million tickets were sold the first day.
The money in the prize pool is used to purchase zero-coupon bonds. Each of the bonds matures annually so the winner receives a check each year for 25 years. By buying bonds, the Lottery can offer larger prizes than a single, lump sum cash payment.
