Multi-Search Engines

Because the Web is so large and changes so quickly, no one search engine can keep up. By utilizing many engines simultaneously, Multi-Search Engines can vastly increase the potential for finding the information you need. Multi-Search Engines simultaneously submit your request to several search engines, then present you with a sorted list of the combined results. Be patient . Multi-Search Engines are inherently slow, due in fact to their use of the many Internet resources to locate your requested information.

Pro Fusion
ProFusion
As part of the Data Discovery on the Information Highway project, a prototype of ProFusion, originally named JayhawkSearch, is now available for public use. "Automatic Pick Best 3", has been added to ProFusion. This feature allows ProFusion to automatically select the best 3 search engines for users' queries. ProFusion provides a personalized search service. This service allows you to register your regular queries, and let ProFusion run them for you periodically and tell you when there are new results.

ProFusion is a meta WWW search engine which uses other search engines to get initial search results and do further processing on its own. This is an ongoing project and new features will be added to ProFusion if such features are tested to be effective in improving search results.

MetaCrawler
MetaCrawler
MetaCrawler is a World Wide Web search service developed in 1994 at the University of Washington by Erik Selberg, Oren Etzioni and Greg Lauckhart. It is now operated by go2net, Inc., an Internet content and technology company based in Seattle, Washington. In February 1997, go2net acquired the MetaCrawler from its original developers and is currently working on various improvements.

MetaCrawler differs from other search services in that it does not maintain any local database. Rather, it relies on the databases of various Web-based sources. MetaCrawler sends your queries to several Web search engines, including Lycos, Infoseek, WebCrawler, Excite, AltaVista, and Yahoo.
