.40-Super Loads

Loading your own ammunition can be an interesting hobby and an economical way to have more fun at the range.

Please Note:

Dangers abound in the process of reloading or firing hand-loads. Improper setup, loading, selection of components, condition of your firearm, or a myriad of other factors can produce fires, explosions, injury, or death. If you are new to hand loading seek competent help before attempting anything listed here.

The Near Death of
the .40-Super
Sad but true, most wildcat rounds die within a year or three.
04/08/2008 Update: For several months, it seemed that the .40-Super was no exception and would die like many wildcat rounds, but it appears that Starline still sees some potential in this round and has continued to produce brass for our loading pleasure.

For a short time Triton offered factory loads, but as this was a wildcat round the prices were, to say the least, very pricey. I bought a few boxes at something around $1.17 Per round!

For a year or two Starline offered brass, but now no longer does.
04/08/2008 Update: Hunter Pilant, Starline’s media relations guy, informed me that they still produce .40-Super brass. Visit Starline Brass for more.

I bought a few thousand pieces of brass, so I can continue to reload for sometime to come. But like the loaded factory round, there may come the day when brass is no longer available. The more we buy now from Starline, the more likely it is that they will continue to produce this case. If you are interested in this round, I recommend you order plenty of brass now, while its still available.

Loaded: 10/28/00, Shot: 11/09/00

Notes: Hodgdon H-110 seems a little too bulky for this round. At 20gr. it's nearly a "crunch" load, produces a massive fireball, and after a few rounds, the gun looks like I've been burning coal in it!
