This is a repository of a very special kind of wisdom. The wisdom of regular folks doing everyday things like: Raising animals, growing, preserving, and storing food, and a thousand other things done everyday in the city and out on the farm, by people just like you. These folks have learned, the hard way, what works and what doesn't.

The broad definition of homesteading is: "Doing for yourself, those things that are now commonly done by big business." For all but the last hundred years or so of mankind's ten thousand-year history, everyone was a homesteader. Even for some of our grandparents there were no supermarkets, indoor plumbing, refrigerators, central heat, electric ovens, or any of thousands of other conveniences we take for granted today. Our grandparents, and all the hundreds of generations before them, did quite well without frozen microwave dinners, milk in little paper cartons, and even hot and cold running water, and so can you! Whether you live 20 miles from town on 10 acres of fertile ground, or in a high-rise condo, with two square-feet of window box dirt, you too can be a homesteader.

The simple act of growing and preparing a few of your own veggies can do wonders for your feeling of self-worth, not to mention your nutrition. And for those of you that want to go a little farther like, raising and harvesting animals, or their products, to put food on your table, this web site may help you in those endeavors. This web page will not make you an instant Davie Crocket or Laura Ingalls, but it may help to keep you and your family alive or reduce the number of mistakes you are likely to make in doing so, thus improving your odds if you wish to be more self-sufficient, or are ever forced to fend for yourself. Which, for many, may happen in the next few months.

If you find this web site useful in your endeavor to be more self-sufficient tell your friends. If you have some homestead wisdom you wish to share with others, please Email Us with the single word WISDOM in the subject line. Let us know if you wish to remain anonymous or would like us to credit you with your wisdom. We will not only credit you, and include your email address, if that's your wish, but we will give you a link to your web page if you have one.
