Do you need to make questionable water potable, or better?

Kitchen table surgery will be much more successful if you have a source of absolutely pure water.

Any good homesteader should have at least one pressure-cooker. That and a few feet of tubing, copper, plastic, etc. attached to the pressure-weight spigot will allow you to produce a still. If you have plenty of firewood or other source of heat, you too can make good water from bad. Fill the pressure-cooker no more than one third full of questionable water, attach a length of plastic or copper tubing to the pressure outlet. Run the tubing through a cold water bath. Set the pressure-cooker on the heat. (If you think there are any petrochemicals in your raw water, throw away the first cup or two of output) the rest should be pure H2O.

Note: Don't over heat the water, (pressure-cooker) running this processes too hot will force contaminated water out through the system.
